Rye Neck is the portion of the Village of Mamaroneck that lies in the Town of Rye. Rye Neck receives most of its municipal services from Rye, but its separate, highly regarded school district is one of the oldest in the state. The Greenhaven and The Preserve sections of the City of Rye also attend Rye Neck schools. Rye Neck is best known for the quality of its schools, its stunning Long Island Sound shoreline and lovely homes-many of which have water views. Once the home of farmers and fishermen, many of the homes in Rye Neck have retained a quaint feeling as it has evolved into a dynamic suburban community.

Public School:

The Rye Neck Union Free School District consists of Daniel Warren Elementary school for grades k-1, F. E. Bellows Elementary School for grades 2-4, and the Rye Neck Middle and High Schools located on a 57-acres park-like campus. Students typically live within walking distance to schools.

Recreation

  • Some sections of Rye Neck can use Oakland Beach located in Rye Town Park on Forest Avenue. Its a crescent-shaped white sand beach offering great swimming and sunbathing. In addition to the beach, Rye Town Park has 62 acres of preserved land with mature plantings, a duck pond and other recreational areas.
  • Crawford Park is a 35 acre estate donated to Rye by the Crawford family upon the death of Mrs. Edna Crawford. It includes the mansion which was the family home built in 1910 and playgrounds, ball fields, and picnic areas.
  • Owned by Westchester County, Rye Playland is an art-deco amusement park that is a historic landmark. In the summer Playland has over 100 rides, a beach and live entertainment and skating in three rinks in the winter.
  • The Rye Arts Center offers art and music classes, gallery exhibits and performing arts events throughout the year.
  • Harbor Island Park in Mamaroneck offers over 44 acres of protected land with sweeping views of Long Island Sound and playing fields. It also has a Sporttime Fitness Center.
  • Marshland Conservancy, located on the Sound, has 100 acres plus of wetlands and an education center.
  • The Rye Neck Recreation Department has a variety of programs for children and adults. Ball fields are available at the high school.
  • Greenhaven has lovely private community beaches.

Shopping/Dining

  • Favorite restaurants in Mamaroneck include Sal's Pizza, Turkish Meze with its sumptuous, exotic cinnamon and nutmeg scented lamb and beef dishes, Ye Olde Tollgate Steak for a traditional steak dinner and Le Provencal for country French.
  • In Rye, Koo's nouveau Japanese cuisine is highly rated by both the New York Times and Zagat's or Water Moon, which is stylish and popular and also well-rated, but a notch less pricy than Koo's. Try the noodles and fish at Water Moon's. If you are looking for a casual meal of burgers, great salads and other typical American dishes try the Rye Grill and Bar near the Rye train station or Town Dock, which is family-friendly.
  • The most convenient shopping is Mamaroneck's busy downtown and all along Boston Post Road. Large, upscale shopping malls in Stamford and White Plains, as well as the boutiques of Greenwich, Rye and Larchmont offer ample choices.
